WindyCity Update: Gohar Takes Out Metwally

26 February 2016

Sporting a heavily strapped right arm 18-year-old World Junior Champion Nouran Gohar got off to a winning start as day two of action at the 2016 Windy City Open presented by Guggenheim Partners and Euqitrust Life Insurance Company got underway at the University Club of Chicago.

Gohar, already a top ten ranked player and a semi-finalist in January’s Tournament of Champions, proved too strong for compatriot Mariam Metwally, dictating the play in an encounter that sets her up well for a challenge that is likely to go deep into the PSA World Series tournament.

“I’m really hungry to play well in this tournament especially because it is an important World Series event,” said Gohar.

“I played very well in TOC so hopefully I can keep playing like this for the rest of the season – that would be nice! I though it was a good match today. We haven’t played since last year in the World Juniors, we played a lot in our junior career and it was always tough, so I just tried to stick to playing my basic game and not open the court to her so I’m glad I got through in three.”

Result:
[8] Nouran Gohar (EGY) bt [Q] Mariam Metwally (EGY) 3-0: 11-9, 11-6, 11-4 (30m)
