Holtrand Heroics From Peter And Lake

23 January 2016

In the quarter-finals of the 2016 Holtrand Open England’s Nathan Lake and Switzerland’s Reiko Peter came through a pair of gruelling and bruising five-game encounters with both men eventually emerging triumphant and booking a place in the semi-finals after more than 100 minutes on court.

Lake, the number six seed, came from 2-0 down against number four seed Martin Knight to record an impressive come-from-behind victory, playing with tenacity and desire as he rescued three straight games to come through after 105-minute to set up a last four showdown with top seeded Ben Coleman, who defeated Chi Him Wong 3-1.

Peter took the honour of the day’s longest match and an encounter that went in the opposite way to Lake’s. The Swiss number three seed got off to a strong start against Angus Gillams, taking a close opening game before doubling his advantage quickly thereafter. A tense third game went the way of the Englishman and he used momentum to level the scores at 2-2 and force a nervy decider.

With the duo trading points through it was Peter who eventually pulled away to take it 11-9 and move into the last four after a brutal 108 minutes, where he will now face Shawn Delierre after he came through 3-0 in an all-Canadian battle with Andrew Schnell.
