Toc update: Willstrop Profits As Walker Retires

England’s James Willstrop, the man who stunned World No.1 Mohamed Elshorbagy during the 2015 World Championship, moved into the second round of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions after first round opponent Alister Walker conceded during the second game of their encounter at Grand Central Terminal.

Willstrop had started in high-quality fashion, playing with immaculate length in the opening game of what was shaping up to be an intriguing encounter but after just there points of the second game the Botswanan offer his hand in defeat granting Willstrop passage into round two.

“It’s never good or enjoyable to win that way, it’s a horrible way to win a match and I feel sorry for Alister,” said Willstrop.

“Being injured is not a nice feeling and I certainly hope that Alister is ok again soon. It’s disappointing for both of us because you always want to soak up as much time as you can on this stage, in the best squash venue in the world.”
