Worlds Update: Golan Dispatches Walker

17 November 2015

Spanish No.1 Borja Golan came through a scrappy four-game encounter against Alister Walker to progress past the first round of the 2015 PSA Men’s World Championship for a sixth successive year.

The World No.13 from Santiago de Compostela went a game behind in the first after a consistent Walker gave him very little to work with in the opening stages of the fixture.

He turned the tables in the next game though with his superior movement allowing him to make a series of fine retrievals to level proceedings at the Meydenbauer Center.

The match then descended into a succession of lets which disrupted the fluency of the encounter with Golan eventually seeing the final two games out by an 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7 margin of victory.

“The World Championship is the most important tournament of the year,” said Golan.

“This is the special one and I might not play many more of these ones. I’m going to try and enjoy it and play my best. Now I’ve got to try to relax and hopefully I can play even better on Wednesday.”

Result – First Round: PSA Men’s World Championship 2015
[14] Borja Golan (ESP) bt Alister Walker (BOT) 3-1: 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7 (61m)
