Earles Moves Through to Next Round in St George’s Hill Open

World No.85 James Earles moved through to the final qualifying round of the Clic Sargent St George’s Hill Open, PSA M25 event after his first round opponent Richie Fallows was felled by injury.

The 22-year-old dropped the opening game to London-born Fallows before capturing the second courtesy of a 12-10 tie-break. That tight game took its toll on Fallows though who, after going 8-1 down in the third, was unable to continue as his tournament met a premature end.

Earles will face George Parker for a place in the main draw with the Englishman in fine form after reaching the final stage at six of his last seven PSA World Tour events. His first qualifying round opponent, Joel Hinds, also bowed out of the encounter due to injury and that has paved the way for an exciting qualifying clash between Earles and Parker.

Meanwhile, Angus Gillams bridged a 26-place gap in the World Rankings to see off fellow Englishman Jaymie Haycocks. The pair squared off in an encounter that saw points ebb and flow between both combatants and it was World No.103 Gillams who eventually prevailed after five games. Top qualifying seed Ben Coleman, who downed Aqeel Rehman, will meet Gillams in the next round.

Australia’s Steven Finitsis blitzed past Alex Ingham to set up a final qualifying round clash with Kristian Frost Olesen who came through a straightforward encounter with Stuart Hadden to reach the next stage of the event.

Peter Creed and Tom Ford will line up against each other after respective victories against Tristan Eysele and Matthew Broadberry.
