Hassan Homes in on Quarter-Final Berth in Malaysia

Muhammad Shoaib Hassan produced a superlative performance to stun number five seed Eain Yow Ng in the opening round of the Malaysian Tour Squash VI, PSA M5 event and move in to the quarter-final stage.

The Pakistani 25-year-old opened up a commanding two game lead, preventing his opponent from attacking with a number of well placed lobs and tight drives.

Ng, who was competing on home soil, fought back in the third game after a dramatic tie-break but couldn’t stop Hassan from taking back the initiative and the World No.266 went on to record an 11-5, 11-8, 12-14, 11-6 victory.

He will face Sanjay Singh Chal in the next round after the Malaysian overcame Syed Ali Mujtaba Shah Bokhari while top seed Muhd Asyraf Azan secured a four game triumph over Mohd Farez Izwan.

Second seed Ivan Yuen saw off Mohd Syafiq Kamal in a comfortable 3-0 victory. A hard-fought second game aside, Yuen was rarely troubled and will be pleased that he could secure the victory in three.

Cheuk Yan Tang will meet Yuen in the quarter-final with Chal or Hassan set to meet the winner while James Huang and Chi Him Wong are set to face off after respective wins over Tsun Hei Yuen and Gurshan Singh.
