Catalina Delights Crowd In Colombia

8 August 2015

Local favourite Catalina Pelaez delighted fans at the Abierto Colombiano de Squash Club el Nogal PSA W15 tournament by defeating number two seed Samantha Teran to book a shock place in the final.

Pelaez, the World No.71, was in inspired form as she recovered from losing the opening game to the World No.30 to produce some sublime squash as she reeled off three consecutive games to secure a berth in her first final of 2015.

“I am feeling incredibly happy right now,” said Pelaez.

“I have played Sam many times and had never won, but we have always had good matches. Today, I felt great playing, all my shots were on.

“From the start I knew it was going to be a really tough match and that I had to keep her behind me. Sam is a really strong player and I have a lot of respect for her. Besides this we have know each other for many years and we are good friends.

“I am really happy I was able to reach the final here at my home club. Congratulations to Sam and I am ready and excited for tomorrow.”

She will now face top seed Victoria Lust in the final as the World No.20 from England put in a composed and accomplished performance to secure a straight games win over Canada’s Nikki Todd.

“I’m happy to win today and I thought I played well and stuck to my game plan,” said Lust.

“I’m looking forward to the final tomorrow.”
