Youd Sees Off Moore in Tasmanian Open

Lucky Loser Jesse Youd made the most of his instatement into the City of Devenport Tasmanian Open, PSA M5 tournament as he progressed from the first round after victory over Toby Moore.

Youd took the first game but was pegged back by his opponent in the second. Youd, who lost to Rod Harker in qualifying before being reinstated after Ahmed Mohamed’s withdrawal, upped his game in the final two games to carve out a hard-fought victory and set up a second round berth.

He goes on to face Robert Downer after the number two seed saw off Ondrej Uherka in straight games.

Jaymie Haycocks has also progressed after he defeated Lewis Doughty in straight games to set up a second round clash with Connor Sheen who took out Rod Harker. Talented teenager Kush Kumar saw off Muhammad Waheed and will face Rohan Toole in the next round after he bested Edward Strugnell.

Chris van der Salm beat Tyler Hawkins in three while Sam Gould’s walkover against Mohamed Abdelkalek ensures that he will lie in wait for the number four seed.
