Qualification Sets Up Main Draw Encounters in Tasmanian Open

The main draw for the City of Devenport Tasmanian Open, PSA M5 event has been finalised after qualification took place today.

Toby Moore is through after he overcame fellow Australian Tim Shaw on home-soil in a dramatic five-game spectacle. Moore went 2-1 down to his compatriot but showed a great deal of mental fortitude to wrestle back control of the encounter and take the victory.

Moore will go on to face fellow qualifier Jesse Youd in the next round after Youd took the Lucky Loser spot after Ahmed Mohamed’s withdrawal.

Youd lost to Rod Harker who will meet Connor Sheen in the opening round of the main draw while the other match in qualifying between Edward Strugnell and Michael Haybittel resulted in a victory for the latter who moves on face Rohan Toole in his next match.

Morgan McGuire’s walkover against Mark de Vries means that he goes through to meet Mithran Selvaratnam. Muhammad Waheed, David Mulcahy and Jamie Pattinson all received byes to set up respective clashes against Kush Kumar, Martin Svec and Sean Conroy when the main draw action gets underway. Harry Palfreyman goes up against Majeed Hussain after he too received a walkover.
