Majestic Matches in Store at Madeira Open

The Onda Revital Club in Funchal, Portugal is gearing up for some absorbing match-ups which will take place at the Madeira International Open Squash, PSA M5 event when the main draw begins.

Spain’s Alejandro Garbi Caro is the favourite for the tournament and will be buoyed by his fantastic performance in his last PSA World Tour appearance.

The 32-year-old from Castellon made it to the final of the Gibraltar Open last month before losing out to Kristian Frost Olesen and he will be eager to go one further this time around.

World No.110 Caro will face-off against Brian Byrne for a place in the quarter-final as he bids to get his campaign off to the perfect start.

Jan Koukal is one of the main challengers to the crown after he became the first player to win a PSA World Tour title for a 12th consecutive year thanks to his Chateau-Arnoux success at the beginning of the month.

The Czech No.1, who is fifth on the current list of PSA World Tour title winners, is up against Belgium’s Joeri Hapers in the opening round.

19-year-old George Parker is on the hunt for his maiden PSA World Tour title after falling at the final hurdle in his last two tournament appearances.

The Leicester-born teenager lost to Reiko Peter and Charles Sharpes, respectively at the Inno Wood Open and the Select Gaming Kent Open but will be hoping to use those disappointments to propel him to success. Parker opens up against Remo Handl in the first round.

Meanwhile, England’s Mark Fuller is still searching for his first PSA World Tour title of 2015 and will begin his tournament against Pascal Gomez. The World No.149 has achieved three runner-up finishes so far this year and will hope to claim further glory in Portugal.
