Tze-Lok Downs Turnbull in Women’s Challenge Cup

Local player Ho Tze-Lok came up with a huge shock to power past Jessica Turnbull in the opening round of the Contrex Challenge Cup, W5 tournament.

The qualifier took a surprise two game advantage against her higher-ranked opponent and, despite a fightback from Turnbull in the third, she stayed strong and climbed to a 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9 triumph.

Tze-Lok’s reward is a quarter-final fixture against number three seed Tong Tsz-Wing after the World No.77 romped to victory against Yura Choi.

Choi Uen Shan is the only other qualifier to make it through to the next round after she took out seventh seed Liu Kwi Chi and she will take on tournament favourite Latasha Khan in round two after the United States player received a bye.

Vanessa Chu defeated Cheng Nga Ching to set up a clash with Amina Yousry while Lee Ka Yi’s victory over Hwayeong Eum means that she will face Carmen Lee for a place in the last four.
