Number one seed Reiko Peter boosted Swiss hopes of a home champion as he advanced to the quarter-final stage of the Pilatus Cup, PSA Challenger 5 tournament with victory over Jakob Dirnberger.

The 26-year-old retained a firm grip of the match throughout the clash and sailed through to an 11-2, 11-5, 11-6 triumph.

“It was very hot and bouncy out there,” said Peter.

“I was able to play at a fast pace and that was my advantage today. I’m pumped for the quarter-finals tomorrow.”

Compatriot Jonas Daehler lies in wait for Peter after the World No.156 overcame Martin Svec in a dramatic five-game-thriller. A see-saw affair made for compelling viewing as the Swiss crowd saw Daehler sneak through to the quarter-final.

Qualifier Daniel Mekbib shocked Patrick Miescher in a 3-0 victory to set up a quarter-final berth where he will face-off against second seed Aqeel Rehman who overcame Manuel Wanner.

There were also wins for Jan Koukal, who beat Adrian Ostbye, and Welshman Joel Makin who made his way past Ondrej Uherka. Koukal’s quarter-final fixture sees him face Benjamin Fischer, who defeated Tom de Mulder, while Tim Weber’s sensational comeback from 2-0 down against Wildcard Remo Handl means that he is pitted against Makin.
