Marauding Matchups Await in Maidstone

The Mote Squash Club in Maidstone hosts the 2015 Select Gaming Kent Open, PSA Challenger 10 event as the crowd gets set for some exciting fixtures today when the main draw begins.

Top seed and favourite Jens Schoor is aiming for his 10th PSA World Tour title. The German fell at the first hurdle in the Sekisui Open – his last appearance on the PSA World Tour – but did reach the quarter-final of the Andorra Open which is a PSA International 25 event.

World No.63 Schoor will be hoping his experience at a higher level pays off as he clashes with wildcard Joshua Masters in round one.

Englishman Charles Sharpes will be hoping to improve on last year’s quarter-final finish here as he meets Michael Harris in the opening round.

Sharpes, whose last PSA World Tour title came in 2012, narrowly lost 3-2 to Todd Harrity at last year’s event and comes into this tournament having already amassed two semi-finals finishes in 2015. The 23-year-old can challenge for honours but will need to battle through in a competitive field.

Number three seed Jaymie Haycocks returns to this event for the first time since 2012 where he failed to make it past the first round.

Shrewsbury-born Haycocks is a much-improved player and has leapt over 30 places in the World Rankings in the intervening years. The two-time PSA World Tour title winner has a difficult fixture against May PSA Player of the Month Nathan Lake who has won two of his last three events.

Last year’s semi-finalist Richie Fallows will be aiming to swoop in on the trophy that narrowly eluded him last year. The 19-year-old just lost out to Jonathan Kemp but is one of the frontrunners this time out. The Londoner will need to navigate his way past Ashley Davies in the first round if he is to make the latter stages of the event.
