Swiss squash star Reiko Peter celebrated his first PSA World Tour title success on home soil when he beat England’s George Parker in the final of the Inno Wood Open, the PSA Challenger 5 event in its second year at Sportpark Pilatus in Kriens.

After recovering from 2/0 down to survive a tough first round match, top seed Peter went on to despatch two fellow countrymen in straight games to claim his anticipated place in the final – the third of his career.

Outsider Parker made his breakthrough in the quarter-finals. The 19-year-old No.7 seed from Leicester beat Tim Weber, the third seed from Germany – then battled to a five-game win over Belgian Jan van den Herrewegen, the No.5 seed, to make the second Tour final of his career.

But World No.80 Peter was too strong for the English teenager in the final, winning 11-9, 11-9, 11-0 in 50 minutes to claim his second Tour title.

“I’m really happy to win my first home tournament and my second PSA title,” said the 26-year-old from Lucerne later. “I would like to thank all my supporters and sponsors.

“The first two games of the final match were pretty close. I had to play well to win them. I think his energy was gone after these two games. Anyway he played a good tournament, so congrats to him.”

Parker added: “I was too tired from this morning’s game. He played well, credit to him. On the whole a decent tournament.”
