Cuskelly Topples Walker In Ontario

24 April 2015

Ryan Cuskelly pulled off the biggest upset in the quarter-finals of the 2015 Northern Ontario Open, PSA International 25 event, taking out number two seed Alister Walker with an accomplished performance in a 3-1 victory.

It was the Botswanan who started stronger, counter-attacking perfectly against Cuskelly’s attacking pace, but the Australian number five seed upped the ante in the second game, pouncing on any opportunity while maintaining a ferociously high work-rate to deny Walker’s hopes of progress as he claimed the next three games to complete the 9-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-7 win.

Fresh from his first round heroics in defeating World No.12 and top seeded Marwan Elshorbagy, American Chris Gordon’s tournament came crashing down against Canadian Shawn Delierre, with the experienced 32-year-old winning in straight-games in 55-minutes.

Elsewhere Cesar Salazar stopped the run of promising teenage talent Diego Elias in a five-game thriller while LJ Anjema continued his come-back from injury with a solid win over Campbell Grayson.
