Max Lee Wins Classic Encounter At Canary Wharf

24 March 2015

Hong Kong’s Max Lee, the World No.16, won a thrilling encounter with maverick Egyptian talent Mazen Hesham to earn his place in the quarter-finals of the 2015 Canary Wharf Classic in London today (Tuesday March 24).

In a 76-minute match that was packed with equal part outstanding shot making and part inexplicable errors, with breath-taking rallies aplenty, it was 27-year-old Lee who eventually emerged victorious 3-2, withstanding a late surge from the 20-year-old to book a place in the PSA International 50 event’s quarter-finals for a second consecutive year.

Lee will now face either number two seed Peter Barker or Egyptian qualifier Mohamed Abouelghar in the last eight.

“It was an unbelievable tough match,” said a relieved looking Lee afterwards.

“I had a bit of luck towards the end to win some crucial points and I’m really happy I won the match.

“He’s such an attacking player and hits so many winners so I’m very happy to win.”

Result: [7] Max Lee (HKG) bt Mazen Hesham (EGY) 3-2: 9-11, 11-3, 11-9, 8-11, 11-9 (76m)
