Germany’s Jens Schoor came away with the spoils at the OAA Greek Open at the Athens Lawn Tennis & Squash Club in the Greek capital Athens.
Schoor, the German number two from Koblenz, was seeded to win the $3,750 PSA World Tour title – and expected to meet second seed Mazen Gamal in the final.
But while the 23-year-old German favourite reached the final without dropping a game, Gamal was taken the full distance by unseeded fellow Egyptian Basem Makram in the other semi-final.
And Schoor, the world No88, maintained his ‘clean sheet’ in the final, beating Gamal – ranked 30 places lower – 11-7, 11-2, 11-5.
The win marks Schoor’s second Tour title success in his second final.
