PSA Anyospark: Lopez Downs Romiglio To Take Crown

Spaniard Edmon Lopez has secured his second title of the season, thanks to a victory over Argentinian Leandro Romiglio in the final of the PSA Anyospark in Andorra la Vella, Andorra.

The World No.88 came into the Challenger 5 level tournament as the No.6 seed, and his part of the draw opened up early with the top seed being beaten in the second round of the competition.

Lopez started his run in Andorra with a win over Austria’s Lukas Windischberger in straight games, before then getting the better of Frenchman Toufik Mekhalfi, the tournament’s No.10 seed, in the last 16.

The Spaniard then took on India’s Abhay Singh, who had defeated the top seed the previous day, in the quarter finals of the competition, after after dropping the second game to see the Indian level the match, Lopez fought through to win in four and advance to the semis.

Due to injury, Welshman Emyr Evans was unable to play in the semi-finals, giving Lopez a walkover into the final, and he used that to his advantage, as he defeated Argentina’s Leandro Romiglio, the World No.70, in straight games in the final, winning 11-4, 11-7, 11-6 to take his second title of the season.
