PSA Budapest Open 2024: Preview

21 September 2024

For the first time in almost 20 years, Hungary will host a World Tour level PSA event as the Budapest Open returns to the calendar. This year, top class men’s action will come from City Squash Club from 22-26 September with 24 players looking to claim the Copper event title.

The 1995 Budapest Open final saw England’s Danny Meddings defeat Irleand’s Derek Ryan for the title. Several English platers occupy seedings places in this event with George Parker, Patrick Rooney and Simon Herbert all occupy top eight seeding positions. The up and coming Jonah Bryant and the experienced Declan James also feature in the draw as they look to cause upsets.

There are less than ten ranking places separating the top four seeds but the top spots have gone to Argentina’s Leandro Romiglio and Egypt’s Omar Mosaad. Romiglio is currently at his highest ranking to date and will be looking to capitalise on that position to secure another title. Mosaad however is a former World No.3 and former World Championships runner up. The experience that the tall Egyptian has will be an important factor if he is to progress deep in the event.

All eyes from a fan perspective will be on Hungarian No.1 and No.3 seed Balazs Farkas. The World No.38 will be desperate to impress on home soil and will have the full backing of the Budapest crowd.

Play gets underway on Sunday 22nd September with live streaming available on the PSA Live Streaming YouTube Channel and live scores available here. Daily roundups will also be available on out website the day after each round.
